Emperor Qinshihuang united South China and set counties Nanhai, Guilin and Xiang on the 33rd year of his Dynasty (Year 214 AD). In Han Dynasty, ZhaoTuo occupied County Nanhai as Nanyue State, covering the area of “SHUNDE”.
After Han regained Nanyue State on Year 111 AD, nine counties were merged under the suprevision of Nanhai County, including Taijin (nowadays Daliang town).
In the 15th year of Dynasty Donghai JianAn (201 AD), SHUNDE was under separated control of Panyu and Nanhai County till the Year 581 AD.
In the 10th year of Dynasty Suikai (that is 596 AD), Panyu was divided into Nanhai county and Panyu county. Taijin (nowadays Daliang town) was under control of Nanhai County, reporting to Guangzhou Supervision.
In the 14th year of Emperor MingYing of Ming Dynasty (that is 1449 AD), farmer rebellion was taken in Chonghe village, Nanhai county.
In the 3rd year of Emperor Mingtai of Ming Dynasty (that is 1452 AD), places like Dongchong, Maning, Ding’an, Xilin, Baiteng were all taken out to form SHUNDE County. It’s downtown been Taijin, and was changed into Daliang at the time.
After that, SHUNDE was under control of Guangzhou during period of Ming and Qing dynasties. After Xin Hai revolution in 1911, SHUNDE was under control of Yue Hai Dao (Cantonese Division).
In 1920, Dao was abdicated, and SHUNDE was sequential under Guangdong Province, Mid-area Appeasement Committee and then First Administrative Tutor Bureau.
On Oct.28th,1949, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army garrisoned in SHUNDE, and set up military control commission in Rongqi town and Daliang town on Oct.30th.
On Mar.20th, 1950, SHUNDE People’s Government was established, belonging to Pear River Administrative Region.
In 1955, SHUNDE People’s Committee was established, belonging to Mid-Guangdong Administrative Region.
In 1958, SHUNDE merged with Panyu County, and was named Pan-Shun county, belonging to Foshan Special Region.
In June 1959, SHUNDE separated from Pan-Shun regained their individual force; When Shunde was still under Foshan Special Region.
On Mar.26th,1992, SHUNDE was upgraded to City level.
On Jan.8th, 2003, SHUNDE was merged to be an area of Greater Foshan Region.
With an area of 8.06 million square kilometers, SHUNDE has a population of 2 million, , among which 1.1 million is local citizen and 0.9 million people from other cities or from abroad. SHUNDE is one of the famous hometowns of Oversea Chinese.
